Miss Black USA Talented Teen is the little sister organization of Miss Black USA, Inc., as featured in Essence Magazine, Allure Magazine, Tom Joyner Morning Show, Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns, BET and other national media outlets. It is a multi-faceted pageant and movement dedicated to elevating the narratives of Black women, shining light on the nexus of achievements of women of color whose contributions often go unnoticed in mainstream media. .
Created in 2008 by international philanthropist and women's empowerment expert Karen Arrington, The Miss Black USA Talented Teen national pageant program focuses on positive identity development, talent development and showcase, civic engagement and leadership for girls ages 14-18. Miss Black USA Talented Teen celebrates the talents and achievements of its state titleholders through it annual national pageant and through the awarding of scholarship and career opportunities.
She Made History As the First Ever Miss Black USA Talented Teen
On August 2, 2009, history was made when Jasmine Alexis was crowned the first Miss Black USA Talented Teen 2009. In the twenty-three years of its existence, the Miss Black USA Scholarship Organization instituted a teen component to its tradition in promoting self-esteem and leadership development of young women of color. Competing against representatives from across the United States, Miss Alexis captured the prestigious honor of Miss Black USA Talented Teen 2009. Jasmine is an alumna of Concordia University in Bronxville, New York. The former national winner, actress and professional ballroom dancer was recently cast as one of the Shark Girls in West Side Story, at the prestigious Signature Theatre, 2009 Regional Tony Award recipient.
